BCYC Immersion Sociology Track
This track is available:
- Session 1 (June 15-20, 2025)
Human beings are social creatures who can’t exist apart from societies. Sociology is the study of those societies and how they shape us. The BCYC Immersion Sociology track will ask essential questions of our society. Where do we get our beliefs, values, and identities? What are the roots of problems like political polarization or social inequality? How does society keep functioning even though it contains very different groups that are often in conflict with each other? In the BCYC Sociology track, we will explore these issues to gain a better understanding not only of society but of ourselves.
Track Instructor
Assistant Professor, Sociology and Criminology
Jesse Smith is an assistant professor of sociology at Benedictine College. After spending several years as a social worker in central Indiana, he went back to school and obtained his PhD in sociology and demography from Penn State University in 2023. He enjoys spending time with his wife and two dogs, playing multiple instruments (none of them particularly well), and being outside when the weather is nice.
